MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY MET WITH TRAFFIC WARDENS
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts. On Tuesday July 20th 2010, Minister of National Security Hon. Sam Condor, along with Permanent Secretary in his Ministry, Ms. Astona Browne, Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Stafford Liburd, Force Personal Officer Mr. Wendel Wattley and Force Finance Officer Mrs Icilma Phipps-Gilbert, met with Traffic Wardens at the Police Training School. Minister Condor told the Traffic Wardens that this meeting was a fulfillment of his promise to meet with all groups within his ministry, noting that they were the last group he is meeting. He said the meeting was timed so that he could meet with them during the summer vacation. In beginning his discourse, the Minister recounted that the Traffic Warden establishment was the brain child of Mrs. Jean Condor and was supported by the Labour Government up to this time. He admonished them to be professional in their approach to the job and to traffic law enforcement, and to see themselves as more than Traffic Wardens, but as also the eyes and ears for the Police in intelligence gathering in the community in general and at the schools in particular, where gang violence is of great concern. In closing, Minister Condor encouraged them to take care of themselves both physically and spiritually, and offered the counseling services of the Force Chaplin. He then entertained questions from the group, and addressed issues such as training, uniform, salary and the 15th anniversary celebration of the establishment in 2011.
