COURT CONVICTIONS
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, (Wednesday 3rd March 2010). The following are the decisions handed down by the courts:
On Wednesday 24th February 2010 Elvis James of Dieppe Bay appeared before the presiding judge at the High Court Her Ladyship Justice Ianthea Leigertwood Octave on an indictment for Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, the jury returned a guilty verdict and James was sentenced to four (4) years imprisonment at HM Prison.
On Monday 1st March 2010 Darren Webster of Verchilds Village appeared before the presiding magistrate at the Basseterre magistrates Court Her Worship Mrs. Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe on a charge for Possession of Cannabis. Webster was convicted and fined $300.00 to be paid in three (3) months or in default one (1) month imprisonment.
On Tuesday 2nd March 2010 Dennis Doras of Stapleton Village appeared before the presiding judge at the High Court His Lordship Justice Francis Belle on an indictment for Larceny. The accused reported sick and was hospitalized when the case was convened on the 1st March 2010 and was still sick when the case was reconvened on the 2nd March 2010. The presiding judge then declared the case a mistrial.
On Tuesday 2nd March 2010 Javier Douglas of St. Pauls and Everton Griffin appeared before the presiding magistrate at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court Her Worship Ms. Yasmine Clarke on a charge of Possession of Cannabis and permitting another without a driver’s license to drive respectively. Douglas and Griffin were convicted and fined $800.00 to be paid in three (3) months or one (1) month imprisonment and $500.00 to be paid in one (1) month or one (1) month imprisonment respectively.
